What you pay even when you are away
Besides community fees, municipal IBI and insurance, non-residents declare each year an imputed income on a home they do not let: 1.1% to 2% of the cadastral value, depending on its age, taxed at 19% for EU and EEA residents and 24% for others (form 210).
Non-EU citizens, including British buyers, may stay in the Schengen area 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. Spending longer in your home requires a visa.
Before choosing
Four points worth having in writing.
- Community fees and IBI, paid all year
- Who looks after the home when it is empty
- If you plan to let it, the rules of your region and your owners' community
- A tax representative or gestor for form 210
